Decoupage – Paper craft – Arts & Crafts

Decoupage, from the French word decouper, means to cut out, is the creative art of assembling, pasting and varnishing paper cutouts for decorating objects.

Decoupage
Decoupage is limited only by the imagination of the artist. Anyone who can use scissors and glue can do decoupage! With time, education and experience the decoupeur will progress from simple designs to complex works of art.

It is an easy hobby craft which can create fine art work. There is another way of decoupage by using paper napkins – tissues/hankies instead of paper. Only 1 thin layer of the napkin (most of them are 3-ply) will be used. Because it only takes 1 coat of varnish/glue to cover the work with paper napkins it’s much easier then working with paper cut outs which need between 10 and 30 coats of varnish.

Another advantage of using napkins is a much bigger range of paper napkin designs in comparison with decoupage paper. This technique can also be used for card making.
